Winterfell - The cabin that started it all

Sometimes, the most unexpected journeys lead to the most cherished destinations.

In September 2018, the four of us—Billy Plume, Jen Scioscia, Billy Nathanson, and Christina Nathanson—embarked on a vacation that took an unforeseen turn. 

Our meticulously planned trip to North Carolina’s Outer Banks was thwarted by a hurricane, prompting mandatory evacuations. Faced with this abrupt change, we decided to head north, embracing adventure with no plan. 

After exploring the scenic landscapes of New Hampshire and Vermont, we set our sights on finding a lakeside cabin in Maine. A late-night search led us to a town and place we had never heard of,  Greenville, Maine.

Nestled along the serene shores of Moosehead Lake. Arriving under the cover of darkness and enveloped in fog, we awaited the morning to truly discover our surroundings. As dawn broke, we were greeted by the breathtaking beauty of Moosehead Lake—a scene so picturesque it felt as though it had been lifted from a magazine. The crisp, autumnal air and tranquil ambiance captivated us, making it clear that we had found something special.

This experience sparked a deep connection with the Moosehead Lake region. Our frequent visits soon evolved into a desire to establish a more permanent presence. Billy and Jen Plume took the initial leap to purchase a vacation home, which became our group's cherished retreat. This cabin became known as Winterfell. 

 As we immersed ourselves in the community, friends and acquaintances began seeking our assistance in managing their rental properties, recognizing our commitment and proximity to the area.

From these humble beginnings, North Woods Maine Cabins was born. 

What started with a single cabin has flourished into a portfolio of over 65 properties and growing, each offering a unique blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. Our mission is to provide guests with unforgettable experiences that capture the essence of Maine’s natural beauty.  

To make this dream a reality, we coordinated our lives to move up to Greenville. The four of us moved into a house together as the initial stepping stone in transitioning from New York to Maine.

 From there, we grew both our businesses and our families, establishing deep roots in this incredible community. Eventually, Bill and Jen welcomed their firstborn son "Baby Billy" and moved into their own home.

When we say we are locally owned and family-run, we truly mean it. 

Bill Plume and Billy Nathanson grew up next door to each other as childhood friends, and Christina and Jen are cousins. Our close-knit bond extends into the way we run our business—with a commitment to hospitality, trust, and treating every guest like family.

In addition to our rental and management services, we proudly own and operate North Woods Fitness, a family-friendly gym offering day passes and memberships for our guests.

Reflecting on our journey, we are continually grateful for the twists and turns that led us to Moosehead Lake. Living in a place that others dream of visiting is a privilege we cherish daily.
